Defensor, Garin commends San Joaquin on Bayluhay, Centennial fests
Iloilo Rep. Arthur Defensor and Board Member Richard Garin commended the people of San Joaquin, Iloilo and its local leadership over the successful staging of the Bayluhay Festival and the observance of the town's centennial celebration.
Defensor and Garin joined the twin celebrations and expressed their continued support for all development programs in the municipality to highlight San Joaquin as the "cradle of civilization." According to the Maragtas legend, it is in San Joaquin where the 10 Bornean datus landed and it is also in the same town where the barter of Panay allegedly took place in the 13th Century. The Bayluhay Festival is held to mark the legendary events.
San Joaquin is also celebrating its 100th anniversary as a town, marking the event when it became a full-fledged municipality. Before that, it was part of the town of Miagao.
